Hays grew up in Arlington and received her bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Texas at Arlington where 
she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the honors college and Goolsby Leadership Academy. Stephanie entered the financial planning industry in 2008, then joined the Principal Financial Group in 2011. During her first year at Principal, Hays received the National New Advisor Award, an achievement that recognizes the top-performing advisor of all experienced recruits across the country. Now wtih 10 years of experience, Hays has successfully helped thousands of clients work towards achieving their financial goals and has even advocated for the financial industry in Washington, D.C.

When she is not working or spending time with her family, Hays volunteers and served on the Board of Directors at GRACE, a local nonprofit that provides assistance to people in crisis. Hays and her husband Michael chaired the 2017 annual grace gala:
